Shift Change
For the longest time, I’ve been working from 11am to 8pm. And some Saturdays. And sometimes 9am to 8pm. And sometimes 11am to 9pm. Now I have to be at work at 7:30 am. It’s quite a change. Instead of being up at 8am, I now have to be up at 5am. It’s quite a difference.
Right now, I am tired – really fucking tired. It’s only 7pm. It was normal for me to be looking forward to my last hour or so of work, and now I am looking forward to having some quiet time with my pillow.
It’s strange, changing careers, but staying within the same company. Honestly, it will be nice, not having to have people transferred to my line to bitch about one thing or anther. In a way, I felt odd all day, not having to talk with customers or taking helpline calls from associates who don’t know how to deal with situations. I think it was odd, just not being on the telephone – at all. But it sure is nice. I can feel my blood pressure going down as I write. That certainly is a good thing.
So now, I have to get used to these hours, and recreating my personal life. It will be nice having evenings off, to be able to go to movies, Sabres games, the Philharmonic, volunteer . . . the list goes on.
But tonight, I need some ZZZ’s.
