Stumble It!Should those ‘anti-Islam’ cartoons have been published?

Filed under: Politics — Eric Ptak @ 5:14 pm

OK, people. It’s a friggin’ cartoon: get over it. Stop burning flags, buildings, cars, shooting your guns, and all that. Stop the inflaming rhetoric, and organizing less intelligent and more gullible people in mass protests. What exactly do you intend to prove by all the violence, anyway? In my eyes, it just shows what a primative society you really have, and how ignorant the majority of your people are.

Now don’t get me wrong, I know what it’s like to be marginalized religiously. I’m forced every day to pay homage to a god I don’t believe in because of some lawmakers and a group of people in my country who wish to force their beliefs on me and people like me. I have to deal with a lot of religious holidays that I could give a frak about. I don’t celebrate Christmas, Easter, Hanukka, Ramadan, Divali, Saturnalia, or any of those other holy days. I know what it is like to be discriminated against.

But you don’t see me walking around in sackcloth and ashes, decrying Bush and his religiosity, waving banners, burning the American flag in protest, blowing up buildings and cars, and things like that. You don’t see me shooting and killing because someone does something mildy offensive to me. You know why?

Because religion is a deeply personal and private thing. Your religion is about your relationship between you and your god. It isn’t about me, or Marty across the street, or Wilma who lives two doors down, or anyone else. My religious beliefs have nothing to do with you, Marty, Wilma or anyone else. It’s about me and my relationship with the universe.

So get off your high horse, cut it with the burning and protesting, quit your bitching. Better yet, why don’t you look at the radicals affiliated with your religious belief system, the ones who give you a bad name, and go after them? Those people are the real root of your problem. Not political cartoonists in Denmark.
