Stumble It!Cops Shot

Filed under: Random Recordings of Mental Meanderings — Eric Ptak @ 9:06 am

From WGRZ‘s website:

Two Buffalo Police officers are being treated at ECMC after being shot Wednesday night. It happened in the vinicity of W. Chippewa and Delaware Avenue.

Officers Patricia Parete and Carl Andolina were responding to a call of a fight at a gas station on the corner. The suspect ran from police, and the officers chased after him. The chase ended about a block further west, near the corner of Chippewa and Whitney, where the officers were shot.

Now something like this happens, you’d think it’d be in the Buffalo Snooze.

*patient whistle*

*looks at watch*

*continues to whistle*

*looks at watch again*

Nope, no story in the Snooze. What a joke that paper is. A story as locally important as this, and not even a mention in the City and Region, let alone on the front page. Two cops in the hospital, one in critical condition, the other a hero, and does the News write one word about it?

No mention of it at all.

Is it any wonder I don’t read it anymore?

I guess I spoke too soon. That’s what you get for not getting the print edition anymore and depending on the Internet edition. The story was on the front page of the print edition, but 12 hours after it happened, it still wan’t on the net yet. It’s still pretty pathetic.

  1. The West Village Renaissance Group, WNY AmeriCorps, Citadel Communications (97 Rock), and the Greater Buffalo Savings Bank have partnered to create a fund for the Buffalo Police officers that were shot on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 9:05 pm in the West Village District of Buffalo, NY.

The West Village was the location of the shooting.

Donations can currently be made via check to “WVRG/WNY AmeriCorps Foundation” and mailed to The West Village Renaissance Group 81 Johnson Park – Buffalo, NY 14201 – Attn: M Rodgers/Parete-Andolina Fund. Cash donation cannisters have been set up at local Greater Buffalo Savings Bank locations city-wide. Online donations can be made via PayPal at:
    http://www.westvillage-buffalo.com/FUND.html

This fund actually started by an outpouring of support for all the B District Police Officers. Residents of the West Village came together and contributed cash to provide “food for support” during this trying time.

It wasn’t until the food was picked up and delivered to B District on Thursday, December 9th that the partners in this effort found out that the vendors wouldn’t take their money. So, the funds collected, close to $500 initially, went into starting this support effort.

Officers were able to grab a quick bite at the station house and then bring some of the food up to the hospital where other off-duty officers were keeping a vigil on Officer Parete who is still in ICU. Officer Andolina was released from the hospital on Thursday with a bullet still lodged in his neck.
