Look at what happened last night. The Israelis and Hezbollah stopped shooting at each other. What happened?
THe Bush Administration, for all it’s huff and bluster, its tough talk, and the hard line it tried to lay our for everyone, pussied out.
That’s right – they pussied out.
This was a situation they just couldn’t handle, and had no clue how to deal with it. They didn’t have the manpower, because all our troops are tied up in Iraq, Korea, and Afghanistan. They had no moral standing on which they could rebuke Israel for the carnage they wreaked on Lebanon. They had no diplomatic ties in the region, other than Israel, that they could use to say, “Hey, cut this out!” They had nothing. There was a situation going on that they could do absolutely ZERO about.
Now, after years of browbeating the UN an belittleing France, what do they do?
“Ummmm, Mr. Chirac? We need your help. See, y’all got some historical influence in the Middle East, especially in Syria and Lebanon. Ken y’all help us out here?”
“Ummm, Mr. Annan? We need your help here. We need some UN troops to help keep the peace here between Israel and Hezbollah. Y’all got some troops you can spare?”
When push came to shove, the Bushies couldn’t handle the heat. They couldn’t deal with it. They have diminished American authority to such an extent that they showed themselves for what they truly are: backbiting blustering weasels.
They pussied out.
