Stumble It!Sabres Won!

Filed under: Sports — Eric Ptak @ 4:18 pm

So the Sabres finally beat the Senators, and their former goaltender the Dominator. We got that little monkey off of our back. The question is, will this victory give the Sabres the respect they deserve? It’s hard to say. Even though they are ranked fourth in the conference, and have been consistently in the top 10 of the league for quite some time now, it doesn’t seem as if they have the respect they deserve.

Sure, they don’t have a Jagr or a Thornton or a Sakic. THey don’t even have a player ranked in the top 50 in the league for total points. You have to reach as far down as 72, which is where Ales Kotalik is ranked to see someone from the team. But they are fifth in wins and win percentage, and that’s doing pretty good without having any “brand name” players.

That’s what the league focuses on. That’s what any league focuses on: the stars. Teams don’t sell tickets, stars do. It doesn’t matter how much chemistry a team has, because if they don’t have someone who is scoring lots of goals or making a name for themselves, they aren’t going to get recognition.

Maybe, by winning 4 of 6 games on a road trip, and then upon coming home, beating Philly and Ottowa, people will start giving them the respect they deserve.
