What’s happening to Society?
On my way home from work last night, I ran into one of my neighbors, Tyrone. He’s a large, black man, about 3 inches taller than me and about four times the girth. He has a deep granular voice, and has a positive attitude about life.
He was talking with his cousin when I walked up. His cousin was visiting from Kentucky, and we made small talk about haircuts. I had just gotten one last weekend, Tyrone is starting to lookk like a human Q-tip, and his cousin commented on how his has stopped growing. He poulled off his hat and ther was a bit of a bals spot. He said that he tried growing it out over the winter, but the top only grew a little, and the sides grew longer, so it looked like he had a cereal bowl on his head. We laughed, not just because of what he said, but how he said it. I could imagine him trying to see if he could hold cereal on his head to entertainhis grandkids.
Anyway, the conversation devolved into the violence that has overtaken the country. Everywhere, the murder rate is up, and the crime rate is up. A nun was killed recently in Buffalo by a man she was trying to help. a woman moved back to the city from Lockport and was killed in her living room. There are 36 murders so far in th ecity of Buffalo, and it doesn’t seem to want to abate.
Then there was the story about the guy from Chicago who shot three kids on the fourth.
It makes me wonder what’s going on.
