Stumble It!Torchwood Season 2

Filed under: TV and Movies — Eric Ptak @ 8:51 pm

Alas, Torchwood Season Two has come to a close. It’s a pity, because the BBC isn’t sure that it will have a Season Three. They are worried about ratings or some such crap. Never mind the fact that it is a very good series, well written, has a large and devoted fan base, lots of action, a science fiction detective action series theme, has adult language that isn’t gratuitous, and takes you around twists and turns that you don’t expect.

Granted, there are some homosexual themes that some would find a little disturbing. Watching men kissing men and women kissing women on network TV might turn some off, especially those who are prudish and sexually conservative by nature. Too bad, it’s part and parcel of the series. Captain Jack Harkness, when he was introduced in the Doctor Who TV series, was created as an ambiguously bisexual character, and it’s brought more to the forefront in this series. Of course, the actor who plays him, John Barrowman, is openly gay, so he will have influence on the character, his foibles, and personality. I say, so what. It doesn’t take away from the series, and adds some humor and depth to the characters.

The end of the last episode saddened me, and not just because of the way it ended. There were no previews of the season to come, and while you can see that there is room for more plots in the future, it’s difficult to see where it can go from where it ended. What new characters will be introduced? Who will join the team? Why is Eve Myles so hot in spite of the gap in her front teeth? Why is Naoko Mori so hot, despite her inherent geekiness? Wait, I won’t be able to contemplate that question any more, at least as far as Torchwood goes.

Still, it’s sad to see a TV show’s season end. No new episode next week, no drama, no trying to guess what is going to happen.

At least Doctor Who’s new season is starting. That’ll take the edge off, at least for a while. The Doctor should have a good season. Billie Piper is coming back for a few episodes, supposedly, and being in love with her, I can’t wait to see her.
