Next . . . Ottawa
The Sabres played yesterday exactly the way the whole series should have been played. Philadelphia did not even belong in the same building as Buffalo. Well, maybe the Wings might have done better. Or was that the Wings that showed up? It doesn’t matter: the better team won. When it came down to it, we have more depth, better goal-tending, faster players, ad better coaching.
On to Ottawa.
This should be a pretty good series, as both teams match up evenly. While everyone points to the two blowouts early in the season when the Sabres were slumping, we did win 3 of the last 4 games against them. After all was said and done in the regular season, we had the same number of wins and losses, it’s just that Ottawa had three more loser points than we did. We have four lines we can roll, they have 3, maybe 3-1/2. There defense is better, but our goal tending is better. Coaching is about equal. This series should go to seven games, with plenty of overtime played.
Some would say maybe we should be playing Jersey. The thing is, it doesn’t matter who we play. We still have to beat two of the top four teams in the conference if we want to go to the Finals again. And that could take anything from eight to fourteen games to accomplish.
It sure is nice, though, to beat a team like a red-headed stepchild in their own building like that, and their fans had the nerve to call us a bunch of fags.
If we’re a bunch of fags, and we beat Philadelphia in their own building that badly, what’s that make the Flyers?
