Stumble It!Sabres win 3

Filed under: Sports — Eric Ptak @ 12:04 pm

Wow.

That’s all I can say.

It’s like they picked right up where they left off last year. Nail-biters to the end, with the first two games ending in shoot-outs. Then, for the third game in four days, a trip up to Ottowa to face a Senators team that was embarrassed at home by the Maple Leafs. They wind up scoring before the third minute of the game, and never trail.

Sure, the penalties are high, as it always is during the first part of the season. We also aren’t getting the power play goals that we were used to getting last year. Nevertheless, we have to look at the fact that this very young team played an extra quarter of a season, against some of the best teams in the league, and this team just got better, even though we did not win the Cup last year.

The emotion is still there. This team is better, I think, with the addition of Spacek. I think it’s a great idea to go to both goalies. Keep Miller on his toes by playing Marty alot. It makes them both better goalies, and makes the team better. It reminds me of the old days, when teams weren’t afraid to have two good goalies – it was a necessity.

But the emotion . . .

Last night, I fell asleep with the radio on, and woke up in the middle of the night to hear a replay of Rick Jeanneret calling the Pominville goal. You can hear his voice shaking with excitement

“Jay-son Pom-in-villllllle”

It’s an amazing feeling, the way they make us fans feel. It’s like rolling over in bed and seeing for the first time all over again the woman you fell in love with so long ago. It’s inspiring, and you feel so mech better the next day for it.
