Stumble It!Sabres Win Two

Filed under: Sports — Eric Ptak @ 8:54 am

The Sabres won Saturday against Montreal, completing a home-and-home sweep, and killed Toronto Sunday. They set a team record for wins in a season, and looked really good in the home closer. They’re locked solidly into fourth place in the conference. The question is, who will they play?

Someone did a probability study, looking at what could happen between New Jersey, Philadelphia, and NY Rangers. Out of 27 possible scenarios, 11 wind up with the Sabres meeting the Devils, with 8 scenarios each for NYR and the Flyers. Personally, I do not care who we face in the first round. If it’s the Devils, I figure it will go 7 games, Philadelphia 4-6 games, and NYR a sweep or maybe five games. Admittedly, the Devils will be the hardest of the three to beat, but it will not matter. What I’m interested in is whom we shall meet in the second round.

I mean, Atlanta still has a chance of squeaking in, and the top billing for the conference is not settled yet. Ottowa could wind up getting knocked out in the first round if they don’t do something with their goaltending. It could very easily wind up being Carolina vs Montreal in the second round and Buffalo vs a Rangers team smarting from a seven game slugging match with Philadelphia. We shall see.

Tuesday’s game should be interesting, with Carolina still fighting for the top spot in the conference. The Sabres want to win, just to show that they can beat the big dogs just as easily as they beat the little ones. Montreal cold beat Ottowa, adn the standings may not change. It’d sure be nice riding into the playoffs on a multi-game winning streak, one of the hottest teams in the league.
