Stumble It!9 and Counting

Filed under: Sports — Eric Ptak @ 8:08 am

There’s something about this team . . .

I was wondering how the Sabres would react to having Ottawa tie it up with less than two minutes remaining. I kept saying to myself “We gotta win. We gotta win. We gotta win.” And Dumont had a sweet goal: he gloved down the puck, and lofted a floater over Emery’s shoulder. He was the 6th player on the Sabres to get a game winning goal in the playoffs.

Listening to the post-game interviews, the players were saying to each other in the locker-room, “Who’s going to be the hero? Who’s going to be the one to step up and do it this time?” It makes me wonder if they have a pool going in that room. Everyone throws in a buck, and whoever scores the game winner gets the pot. No, probably not. But they do spread the wealth.

They have more players with three or more goals than any other team remaining in the playoffs. They are all blocking shots. They are playing solid team hockey, and that’s the kind of game plan that takes teams where you want to go. You don’t have to have superstars to get it done, you need everyone being in it for each other, not just saying “there is no I in team” but living it.

And 9 more wins is all we need. Nine out of a possible 18 games. Very doable.
