Stumble It!Planning for 2008?

Filed under: Politics — Eric Ptak @ 8:04 am

I was listening to the talking heads this weekend while working on stuff around the house. I don’t remember which show it was that I was listening to, but someone was trying to make the point that the Republicans are trying to force the hands of Democrats to nominate Hillary Clinton for the Presidency in 2008. While this seems kind of convoluted in thinking, it does make a certain amount of sense. They keep mentioning her as a front-runner, and that will stick in the back of people’s minds. When it comes time to vote, the hope (for the Republicans) is that she will be nominated.

The speaker made the point that this is what happened in 2004. Dean, Clark and Edwards all fared well early on, but the buzz for some time was that Kerry was the front runner, even though the early polls did not support that. What happened? Kerry won. Of course, there were mis-steps by the other candidates, (“Yeeeaaarrrrrggggghhhhh”) but Kerry did wind up winning.

What bothers me is that Bush last week said that it will be up to the next President to decide when the troops will come home from Iraq and Afghanistan. The neo-cons is already planting the seeds of what the major debating points will be about. How many candidates will say “I will get our troops home”? “Spending is out of control, I will fix it”? “I will fix the exonomy”? “I will protect your civil rights”?

Boy, I can’t wait. *sarcasm*
