The Cost of War

Think about it. That’s a lot of money.

Right now, there are approximately 300,165,581 people in the USA. That means this war has cost you over $11,300 so far. It works out to about $10 a day. What could that get you each day?

  1. A dozen cups of coffee at Tim Horton’s.
  2. A good bottle of wine.
  3. Dinner for two at McDonald’s.
  4. Two packs of smokes.
  5. A pitcher of Yeungling beer.
  6. Three large bags of Dorito’s.
  7. Two pounds of sliced ham or turkey.
  8. Three pounds of boneless pork chops.
  9. Two pounds of sirloin steak.
  10. Ten pounds of apples.
  11. Four bags of salad mix.
  12. Four 6-packs of 24-oz bottles of Coke.
  13. Ten cans of peaches.
  14. A little over a pound and a half of almonds.
  15. A box of Keebler Town house Crackers, a brick of cheddar cheese, and a stick of pepperoni.
  16. 24 6-oz containers of yogurt.
  17. Ten Banquet frozen dinners.
  18. Three pints of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream.
  19. A 25-lb turkey.
  20. Eight cans of Progresso soups.
  21. Enough ltide to do 80 loads of laundry.
  22. Five cans of Dinty Moore’s.
  23. Four bags of Snicker’s Mini’s.
  24. Four to five gallons of gasoline.
  25. Three bottles of Listerine.
  26. A twelve-pack of rubbers.
  27. Three bottles of 40*50 count Advil.
  28. One month of dial-up internet access.
  29. Two bottles of Nyquil.
  30. A couple of paperbacks.

That’s just one month of spending ten bucks on random shit each day. You could give $70 to church or charity each week. Or, you could save up the money each month, and pay all your utilities. Or buy a video camera every month. Or you could save it all up for a year, and buy a decent used car. With the money you’ve spent on the war so far, you could have gotten a two year degree at a local community college. Or you cold have bought a newer car, or a flat-screen digital TV. There’s a lot of crap you could have bought with your share of the money.

But you didn’t, you spent it on the war in Iraq.
