SETI@home

I have started up again with SETI@home [1]. I had stopped temporarily because quite frankly, my computer was messed up and it wouldn’t install correctly. Now that it’s fixed, I’ve got it installed and working again.

I’m not sure I like the new setup, though. I know that you can run different projects with the new software [2], and many of them need the large amounts of comuting resources. There’s even a wiki to help you out with getting it all set up [3]. There’s a lot more that you have to do, and a lot more that you can do.

Before, it would just run, and occasionally, you’d have to download more units. It was a simple matter of clicking and going on with what you were doing. This seems to be a little more complex. I need things to be easier and less complex, because I don’t need to spend much time mucking with a program that runs in the background.

I’m sure though, that after a while, I won’t even notice. And if it is accomplishing something that helps out, than it’s OK by me.
