Chris Bliss – Smart Comedy for the Information Age

Chris Bliss [1] is quite the talented juggler, and he’s a comedian too. Someone sent me his juggling video. I think it was when he appeared on Letterman or something. He did his routine to The Beatles’ Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/End sequence from Abbey Road [2]. It was quite a show, and for me, a little nostalgic.

Back when I was in grade school, I was a huge Beatles fan, and Abbey Road was the favorite album I didn’t own. There were so many songs on it that I liked: Come Together, Something, Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, Oh! Darling, Octopus’s Garden, I Want You (She’s So Heavy), Here Comes the Sun, and the whole second side. I guess that’s the whole album. Maybe I shouldn’t have waited until my 20′s to buy it.

But to see this guy doing a juggling routine on stage – it brought back memories. Memories of doing rifle routines for Color Guard. Memories of playing violin on stage, in front of a packed house. Memories of performing in musicals in high school.

I also liked juggling when I was younger. I taught myself how to juggle with three balls in a bout 20 minutes. I was staying at one of my sisters’ house, and she had the book and some balls. I picked the book up, looked at how it was done, and had juggling down pat in short order. It was really easy, actually. I couldn’t help but think what would have happened had I pursued that talent . . . where would I be now? Not on this planet, I’ll tell you that.

Needless to say, I reallly liked the video, and everyone should take the time to watch it. The guy is talented, and it’s worth the watch.
